How To Keep Your Pet Safe

Moving to a new apartment homes is already hectic enough.  Not only do you have to think about packing up all of your things, possibly hiring a mover and unpacking your thinks. If you have a pet, then you can add this to the long list of things that you need to be concerned with.  Its always important to create a plan so your pet will be safe and out of harms reach.  During a move there will be a lot of hustle and bustle, and sometimes our attention is diverted. Read on for a few tips on how to keep your pets extra safe during a move.

Keep Your Eyes Peeled

Just remember that there is a lot going on during the day of your move. And you don’t want your pet to get left out. We have listed some common and potential problems that you want to keep in the forefront of your mind so they will stay safe. 


An easy way for pets to disappear is if you keep the front door wide open. All they have to do is walk out and they can be gone.  So be aware of where your pet is during the move.

  • Pets also can be frightened by movers or others.
  • Pets can experience stress easily. With the more activity and chaos that is going around in their proximity, the worse it can be for them.  Diarrhea and nausea are things you want to look out for.

A Strategy of Safety

  • Put your pet in a carrier or keep them on a leash. This way they won’t be able to escape to easily. You can also tie your pet up with the leash.
  • Let your movers know that there is a pet on the premises.  That way they will know not to leave the doors wide open.
  • Make sure your pet has a collar with the appropriate tags. If they do somehow manage to escape, there is a number that can be used to contact you or your vet.

*Simply lock your pet up in the crate and leave them in it for the majority of the move. That way you can be sure that they won’t run away.
