If you live in an apartment, after awhile you will eventually run into your neighbors. One day you may receive a knock at the door. And it will be your neighbor who wants to ask you a favor. The questions you will have to ask yourself is should you do it. Here are a couple ideas you might want to consider before you accept. Its not as easy a question to answer as you might think.
Situations where you might accept
Of course there will be plenty of situations where you will want to do a favor for your roommate.
*It will make a good impression upon your neighbors. It also will give you a chance to get to know them
You should do it because you might need the favor returned to you sometime in the near future
It is common decency to help someone out who needs assistance. What if you had an emergency and you needed your neighbor to help you?
Its just the right thing to do
Remember that doing any kind of favor for you neighbor will most likely put you on good terms with them. Its a great way to make new friends in your new Woodlands apartment community and also its a great way to stay safe in your apartment complex too. Doing a favor for them is an act of good faith, but don’t feel obligated to do it every time.
Situations that might require you to say no.
If you neighbor suddenly asks you to do a favor form them that you cannot do or would be a huge inconvenience, its ok to say no. Here are a few situations where saying no is simply ok:
You cannot do what they are asking you to do: Its much better to say no outright than trying to keep a promise that you cannot.
You feel that its not safe: Maybe they ask you to feed their dog, but you have allergies. Or the dog is extremely aggressive and you don’t want to get bitten.
Their request makes you feel uncomfortable: Don’t feel as though you have to give an excuse for saying no. If your not comfortable completing their task, simply saying “no” is ok.
Is you neighbor taking advantage of you. Sometimes saying yes for a small favor can lead to multiple request for assistance. Doing one or two favors may be ok. However, if they start to ask for several favors you need to say “no”.
