How to Plan Your Apartment Search
Your visit to your new apartment home is somewhat like a job interview, so you should approach it as such, and be prepared to make a good first impression. We have included some steps that are easy to follow when your visiting apartments. So to prepare yourself bring the materials you will need in order to make your landlord happy enough to make you one of his tenants.

Get all The Paperwork Together

If you tour a property and the price is right, you might want to fill out an application for approval at the apartment community. So you will want to get all your personal materials in order. This will include your recent renter’s history, employment details, social security number, and either tax returns or bank statements showing that you make the appropriate income levels.  And of course you will need to bring a checkbook or credit card in order to pay for the security deposit and application fee. You will need to have all these materials handy during your apartment search if you plan to apply at any apartment communities.

Research Research Research

When you tour apartment communities the leasing agents will probably offer you brochures and other materials. However, you will need to assemble some of your own things if you plan on touring small apartment communities where you might meet directly with a landlord. These items will include a notepad or pen, a digital camera, and even a list of questions which might aid you in making a more informed decision. So go ahead and get a binder out of your closet so you can organize all of your detailed findings in one place. This will help you to remember each apartment you visited, especially if its an extremely high number of properties.

Map Out The Routes

Most people don’t enjoy getting lost. Not only does it create unneeded stress, it also is a  monumental wast of time. Driving through an unknown city without directions is like walking in the dark. So plan your apartment visits accordingly.  Make sure you organize your visits in each part of town. If you looking in the downtown area, tour all the apartments in that part of town search. Then another day you might want to search in another section of town. So if you have online mapping tools on your phone or you just like the old fashioned map, bring them with you. Also plan on bringing the apartment complexes numbers just in case you get lost.
