Don't Make These Pet Owner Mistakes
If you own a pet it really doesn’t mean that you know all there is to know about caring for your pet. There is much to learn about your lifestyle that includes you, your pet, and your apartment home. You don’t want to make a myriad mistakes, so read on to discover what you need to do to care for your pet in your new apartment home.

Did You Get a Pet Before You Were Ready

In many ways getting a pet too soon is like a parent who has kids before they are really ready. In these cases you are the sole person responsible for caring for that living thing that will basically need you for everything.  Remember, your schedule now will not be completely free and your pet will need daily walks and food. And there will also be more bills. You will have veterinarian bills, food to purchase, and of course if and when you go out of town you will need to board your dog too.

So before you buy your new furry friend, make sure your schedule and finances are all aligned.  A poor decision can lead to bad situation that you don’t want to get in too.

Get the Right Pet

Many renters will buy their pet only to realize their pet is not the right size and does not have the personality for the home. Some dogs don’t make good pets for apartment homes. Do a little research to find out what types of dogs are right for you. Jack Russell Terriers usually are full of energy and may not work well in tight confined spaces. Try searching online for the right pet that will meet your needs.

Also many apartments have strict rules regarding breed and weight. If you already live in an apartment home, then ask your leasing agents about pet restrictions.

Is Your Apartment Home Pet Proofed

Just like a kid, you will need to take the appropriate steps to prepare your apartment home for your pet. Dogs and puppies like to chew and this can lead to damage of your personal items. Don’t leave garbage in an easily accessible place or it might end up all over the floor.  And if the apartment home has a balcony, doors should leading out to them should be closed at all times. Also electrical wires or other dangerous items need to be wisely secured.
